What is Modular Granite?

When choosing worktops for your kitchen, you will come across several options. One of these will most likely be modular granite. These mini slabs are prefabricated and pre-sealed. They have shaped front edges and there are sections available to fit your sink and other cutouts. If you are not sure whether or not modular granite is for you, it’s important to consider the pros and cons as well as those of granite slabs.

Some of the pros

The main advantages of this type of granite are the price and the fact that DIY installations are easier than they are with granite slabs. This is largely due to the fact that they come in smaller pieces which are not as heavy as full slabs. They are also pre-sealed which means that you don’t have to worry about any additional work after the installation is complete.

Now for the cons

If these worktops are not properly installed, they may not last as long as granite slabs. These worktops are notably thinner than slab granite too. This makes them more prone to cracking if they are not cared for properly. Modular granite is also not as diverse as slab granite in terms of designs and colours. You will not have as many varieties from which to choose. It’s true that modular granite worktops look better than many other surfaces but, they do not improve the value of your property like slab granite. They are simply not seen as such a great investment that they can impact your asking price should you wish to sell in the future.

If you are on a very tight budget, modular granite worktops might work for you. However, if you are looking for granite worktops that will stand the test of time and really add value to your home, slabs are the superior choice.
