Bathroom worktop options, pros and cons

Even if you have a small bathroom, worktops are essential. Not only is it important to choose worktops that look good, but also materials that will withstand the high levels of humidity in this room. Here are some options as well as the pros and cons associated with each worktop type.

These surfaces are popular because of their price. Of course, cheap is not always the best and these surfaces are known for proving especially inferior in terms of strength and durability.

These types of surfaces are durable and they can look amazing. However, this means that they need to be professionally installed and treated in order to prevent damage or excessive wear. Concrete is not naturally elegant and this means that the surface needs to be honed, polished or an epoxy coating needs to be applied before you will enjoy beautiful worktops.

Natural stone

Marble, granite and quartz are examples of popular worktop materials. While they do cost somewhat more than most other materials, they are known for their natural elegance and durability. Surfaces like marble and granite require initial and regular sealing whereas quartz does not. All of these types of worktops will help improve the value of your home which means that they will more than pay for themselves in the future.

While tiles might look quite attractive when applied to work surfaces in your bathroom, it's important to note that they can crack and chip very easily. In addition, the grouting area can be difficult to maintain. Especially if mould takes hold.

Before upgrading or installing new worktops in your bathroom, make sure that you consider your needs as well as your preferences. The cheapest options are not always the best when it comes to long-term solutions.
