How to repair damage to marble worktops

You have finally fulfilled your dream of fitting the most gorgeous marble worktops in your kitchen and everything looks fabulous. The transformation is simply amazing and you couldn’t be happier. That is, until your perfect worktops are accidentally chipped or scratched.

No matter how careful you are, your kitchen is a work space and, in time, you might just be in a bit of a hurry and drop something or spill something which results in damage. Don’t panic just yet! Although your countertops are made from natural stone, it doesn’t mean that all hope is lost.

With marble, the most important thing to consider is the extent of the damage. If the scratch or chip is deep, you will need to use a filler. The tricky part is matching the filler to the colour of your worktops. This is why so many people prefer to call in the experts.

If you have a dulled section or you neglected to clean up a spill immediately and it damaged the surface, all hope is not lost. Such damages are usually only “skin deep” which means that the top layer will need to be removed and the finish reapplied. Again, professionals have all the right tools and materials to get the job done right.

Remember that prevention is always better than cure and marble is quite porous. Seal your marble worktops as soon as they are installed and perform regular resealing. As soon as you notice water drops no longer bead on the surface, it’s time to seal again.
