Choosing worktops for your kitchen

22-Oct-2020

If you want to install new worktops in your kitchen but you don't know where to start, it's important to understand the pros and cons of each option. There are plenty of choices out there and there is no 'one size fits all' option. Here are some choices as well as their pros and cons to help you make an informed decision.

Laminate

These worktops are cheap and installation is easy even if you don't have experience. On the downside, they are considered 'cheap' and they are known to chip and peel. These are not ideal as a long-term solution.

Ceramic tiles

Another inexpensive options, ceramic tiles are also easy to install. That said, the grouting in between can easily stain and they are also prone to cracking.

Granite slab

Solid granite is durable and elegant. You also don't have to worry about dirt getting into any seams. One potential downside is the initial cost and they are also not easy to install yourself. Of course, they will last for years and improve the value of your property.

Marble

Elegant, unique and perfect for those who love baking, marble worktops are a true investment. Each slab is unique in its colour and veining pattern. These surfaces are porous and they need to be sealed and resealed on a regular basis.

Quartz

Beautiful and durable, quartz is actually a combination of nature and man's innovation. These surfaces are not porous and they are readily available. On the downside, these surfaces are heavy and they can prove more expensive than most other options.

When choosing worktops for your kitchen, keep in mind your preferences as well as your needs. If you do not want to end up replacing them again in a few years, make sure that you choose the right surfaces to suit your cooking habits.
